Green Party councillor prevents sale of important county council assets

26 September 2016

Green Councillor Adrian Dearnley today proposed an amendment to remove The Garage (14 Chapelfield North), Bowthorpe Community Hub and Sewell Barn Theatre from the Council list of properties deemed to be ‘surplus to requirements’.

The proposal was agreed by the Council’s Policy and Resource Committee after being seconded by another councillor on the committee.

Following the meeting Cllr Dearnley said:

“I’m delighted that committee members accepted my amendment and hope that it provides re-assurance to those organisations who feared that their premises might be sold off.

He continued:

“The Council has recognised that assets which are used by the community should be treated differently than those which are no longer needed to provide council services.  I am delighted that the Conservative administration saw sense and decided that selling these cultural and community assets was not in the best interests of the people of Norwich or Norfolk.”
