Fantastic Local Election Results for the Greens

8 May 2019

The Green Party of England and Wales achieved a fantastic election result on 2 May, with our councillor numbers increasing from 178 to 362!

Norwich saw nine Green Party councillors elected in three wards:

– Mancroft:  Sandra Bogelein, Jamie Osborn, Martin Schmierer

– Nelson: Densie Carlo, Paul Neale, Nannette Youssef

– Thorpe Hamlet: Lesley Grahame, Ben Price and Nigel Utton

As well as taking the top three places in three wards, the Green Party polled 4th, 5th and 6th places in another six. wards. (Norwich has 13 wards).

Green Party councillors will continue to provide the official opposition to the Labour administration on Norwich City Council.

The makeup of the Council now stands at:

Labour – 27 councillors

Green Party – 9 councillors

Liberal Democrats – 3 councillors

At a time when people are experiencing climate breakdown and witnessing devastating losses to the natural world, the national mood has changed.  People are recognising the importance of green solutions and working together in a spirit of co-operation.

For these reasons, the Green Party is strongly in favour of remaining in Europe and working for radical reform.

We now look forward to the European Elections on 23 May when three of our Norwich members, Catherine Rowett, Rupert Read and Martin Schmierer are standing for the Eastern Region.

Thousands of people have joined the Green Party in the last few weeks. If you’re not already a member, why not join Green Party today?  Welcome to The Green Party
