County Council Puts Cars Above Care
Figures released to Green Party councillors suggest that dualling the A47 from Peterborough to Lowestoft would be likely to cost more than £1,005,100,000. At the same time, the government has recently allocated only £260,000,000 to the adult care sector, nationally.

Councillor Paul Neale, who represents Norwich’s Nelson division, has said:
“It’s time Norfolk stopped being a car county and moved on to being a care county. Most people who live in Norfolk would put people before roads and would want to be looked after well as they got older. New roads increase traffic, have negative impacts on air quality and add to the county’s carbon emissions, which really need to be going down, not up.

“Meanwhile, we desperately need more government money to fund essential care and other vital services for adults and children in Norfolk. The county council and national government need to think carefully about their priorities and give Norfolk what it needs, not a road that will take us in the wrong direction for the future.”
