Anglia Square must meet the needs of the local community

A local councillor has thrown his support behind local residents who are unhappy about a planning applications from Weston Homes to impose an off-the-peg template on Anglia Square.

Councillor Alex Catt who represents residents in Sewell ward said:

“Anglia Square has been the number one issue raised on the doorstep in the past two local elections. Residents want a development that provides affordable housing, that meets the needs of Norwich, and offers residents a better quality of life. They are desperate for Anglia Square to be developed, but they want it to be done well.

“Personally, I prefer an alternative scheme recently put forward by campaigners which better meets the needs of the local community. This scheme provides more good quality affordable housing and accommodation which will better meet the needs of residents in the future.

“I wouldn’t want to condemn anyone to live in an expensive poorly-ventilated flat on the eighth floor, working from home in a heatwave, but this is how people would end up living in the Weston Homes building.

“The alternative scheme revitalises Botolph Street and recreates the original streetscape, knitting a new neighbourhood into the surrounding area.”
