The Green Party has announced its candidate for parliamentary elections in Norwich South. City and county councillor Jamie Osborn is standing for the Greens to tackle the cost of living, insulate homes, and fight for people in Norwich at Westminster.
Jamie has represented the city centre area of Norwich on the city council since 2019 and on the county council since 2021. In 2022, he won the highest share of the vote anywhere in Norwich for the local elections, with nearly 62%.
Jamie is a well-known campaigner on local and national issues. He got Norwich City Council to agree to insulate more houses, reduce fuel poverty and cut carbon emissions. He has been an outspoken critic of the Conservatives for failing to prepare for the cost of living crisis, he has helped trade unions win fair pay for workers, and supported small businesses in recovering after the pandemic.
Jamie said, “With the cost of living at the forefront of everyone’s minds and an accelerating climate emergency, Norwich needs Green policies more than ever.
“We need Greens to deliver the actions that tackle inequality and climate change at their root: insulating homes on a massive scale to bring down energy bills, raising the minimum wage and introducing a Wealth Tax, and bringing energy companies back into public ownership.
“I am proud to have been working hard for the people of Norwich, while many residents have told me that the sitting MP Clive Lewis is missing in action. Norwich deserves an MP who can bring about change for local people, and I promise to do that.”
Jamie Osborn lives in Norwich South with his wife and three-month-old son Oliver. As well as being a local councillor, he works for a charity that supports renewable energy and helps reduce fuel poverty. He has previously worked for a mental health charity in Norwich, for Oxfam’s European office, and as a Deliveroo rider.
The Green Party topped the poll in 2019’s European elections in Norwich, with over 3,000 more votes than Labour. Norwich has led the way for the Greens’ growth nationally. In local elections in 2019 and 2022 the Green Party won nearly a third of all votes.
