Green Party announces parliamentary candidate for Norwich North

The Green Party has announced its candidate for parliamentary elections
in Norwich North. City and county councillor Ben Price is standing for
the Greens in order to tackle the cost of living, insulate homes, and
fight for people in Norwich at Westminster.

Ben has represented the Thorpe Hamlet area of Norwich on the city
council since 2012 and led the Green Group on the county council since
2021. In 2022, more than half the voters in Thorpe Hamlet voted for him.
His priority as a candidate will be to highlight opportunities for
Norwich to thrive in a future economy which focuses on renewable energy
and technology.

Ben said:
“I want to see people in Norwich benefitting from jobs in new
technologies. Putting Norwich at the heart of our transitioning economy
goes hand in hand with our need for energy security and helping everyone
in the city weather the cost of living crisis.

“My work as a councillor has focused on supporting people to positively
influence the places where they live. I’ve worked with community groups
to improve green spaces, reduce anti-social behaviour and make roads
safer by introducing 20mph speed limits. I want to help people across
the whole of Norwich make their lives and communities better.”

As the Chair of the city council’s Audit Committee, Ben has been
pro-active in identifying weaknesses and inefficiencies in council
procedures. Through his leadership, internal investigations have
uncovered financial failings which have then been set right.

He has lived in Norwich for over twenty years and has two school-aged
children.

The Green Party topped the poll in 2019’s European elections in Norwich,
with over 3,000 more votes than Labour. Norwich has led the way for the
Greens’ growth nationally. In local elections in 2019 and 2022 the Green
Party won nearly a third of all votes.

Norwich Green Party has eleven councillors on Norwich City Council,
where it forms the main opposition party, and three on Norfolk County
Council, representing the wards of Mancroft, Nelson and Thorpe Hamlet in
Norwich.
