Green Party Seeks to Save Popular Local Music Venue

8 January 2016

Green Party councillors on Norwich City Council responded with dismay to the news that the city’s popular music venue, The Owl Sanctuary, was to shut at the end of this month.

Ben Price, Green Party councillor for Thorpe Hamlet – the area in which the pub is located – said:

“DIY music venues such as the Owl Sanctuary should be promoted rather than closed down. They are key to making Norwich the fine city that it is.”

He continued:

“The Green Party representatives in Norwich will do all they can to help local residents in their efforts to ensure that this pub is designated as an Asset of Community Value in order for it to continue to operate beyond 31st January.”

“In the past Green Party councillors have been instrumental in helping residents ensure that pubs such as the Marlpit on Hellesdon Road as well as centres like the Wensum Sports Centre on King Street are designated as community assets.

“I look forward to becoming involved in this campaign and hopefully saving The Owl Sanctuary which in my view is a real bastion for the DIY culture which we in the Green Party really respect.”

Currently there are nine sites listed by Norwich City Council as Assets of Community Value of which four are pubs.

Notes:

The Green Party are currently the official opposition on Norwich City Council with 14 councillors – the largest group of Green Councillors in the UK
