Watch Lesley Grahame’s interview on BBC Newsnight discussing Norwich South

17 November 2014

The Norwich Green Party hosted a visit from a BBC Newsnight team on Tuesday 11th November who visited the Norwich South constituency to investigate the exciting prospect next year of a five-way battle for the seat.

The rise of parties such as the Greens has demonstrated that the old political model of two-party politics is over and that a new landscape awaits where voters are offered a real alternative on the ballot paper. The Green Party are standing more candidates across England and Wales than ever before and over 260,000 [1] people have signed a petition calling for their inclusion in the TV debates.

Norwich South Green candidate, Councillor Lesley Grahame said: “I was delighted to show them the Fifth Quarter community garden in Thorpe Hamlet. This is a site that has triumphed community action to bring together a diverse array of people for a great cause. What was once desolate land is now feeding back into the community. The area is also in close proximity to other examples of successful Green work such as Wensum Sports Lodge which we helped save and Prince of Wales Road where work is progressing to make the area safer.

“I was keen to impress that residents’ votes must be earned as political parties cannot claim to own anyone’s vote. The Green Party represents a welcome change from a stagnating system built on the least-worst option. Norwich South represents a great opportunity for a second Green MP to be elected to parliament and I look forward to the next 6 months.”
