Norwich South MP candidate, Lesley Grahame, selected as Green Party Spokesperson for Peace and Disarmament

15 January 2015

The Green Party of England and Wales have announced their new group of spokespeople to represent areas of interest and Norwich South candidate, Lesley Grahame, has been selected as spokesperson for Peace and Disarmament.

Lesley-Grahame

Commenting on her selection Lesley Grahame said: “Every Government should have a Department; every Cabinet, a minister; and every political party, a spokeperson for Peace and Disarmament. In the Green Party, we take state commitments under international humanitarian law seriously, and I’m honoured to be the Green Party’s spokesperson, ready to take the issue forward in Parliament if I am elected in May.”

The Green Party of England and Wales have a commitment to peace-building and if in government they would only undertake defence measures after thorough public consultation with an emphasis on prevention rather than reactionary moves. Defence budgets have soared recently and should be publicly accessible and the cost of specific weapon systems should be available to the public at a very early stage. The Green Party have a long-held commitment to nuclear-disarmament and a depth of policy on peace matters.

Lesley is looking forward to embracing the role and championing peaceful practice on a local and national level.
