Greens call for community consultation on the future of Angel Road Junior School

For the past six months, there has been speculation over the future of Angel Road Junior School with safety issues leading to pupils being moved from the site, both to St Clements Hill Primary School and to temporary classrooms at Angel Road Infant School.

It has now come to light that Angel Road Junior School will be closed permanently with the school hoping to accommodate both infant and junior schools on the same site from September 2022. We are angry about the lack of clarity given to parents and residents about this over the past six months, and now concerned about the future of the old school building on the site at Angel Road.

The building will now be returned to Norfolk County Council who will be responsible for deciding how the site will be used in the future. As your local Green Party representatives in Sewell, Cllr Gary Champion and city council candidate, Alex Catt, are calling for Norfolk County Council to listen to residents and set up a community consultation about how the building should be used. We are also calling on Norfolk County Council to ensure that the proper facilities are in place for pupils who have been moved to Angel Road Infant School, so that their education and general school experience is unaffected.

With a historic record of underinvestment in schools and infrastructure, it is shameful that Norfolk County Council have allowed safety issues to escalate to the point of closure. A full investigation should be undertaken into why the building was allowed to fall into such a state of disrepair.

After six months of being kept in the dark, residents and parents must be at the forefront of any decisions made about the future of this site. Please our petition to Norfolk County Council using the link provided.

Call on Norfolk County Council to open a community consultation on the future of Angel Road Junior School.
