GREENS LAUNCH NORWICH MANIFESTO

The Green Party in Norwich has set out its vision to win more seats on
the city council, launching a manifesto for a fairer, greener city.

Green priorities include tackling the cost of living crisis and rising
fuel bills by insulating homes and installing renewable energy sources
such as solar panels and air source heat pumps. Greens also want Norwich
to become a cleaner city which everyone can enjoy living in: putting an
end to the fly-tipping that blights parts of our city centre and
protecting green spaces for the benefit of people and wildlife.

Greens will be at Pulls Ferry, Ferry Lane at 4.45pm on Wednesday 30th
March, talking about their manifesto and ambitions for the city.

With elections on 5th May, the Greens, who have doubled their numbers on
the city council in the last three years, are hoping to strengthen their
position as the official opposition on Labour-run Norwich City Council.

Councillor Lucy Galvin, leader of the Green Group on Norwich City
Council, said:

“People living in Norwich deserve a better quality of life. The city
council can lessen the impact of skyrocketing fuel bills by insulating
homes and installing solar panels and air source heat pumps so residents
need to buy less gas, oil and electricity. This has the added benefits
of using less fossil fuel which will help in our fight against dangerous
climate change. Greens want to establish a retrofitting taskforce in
Norwich, which would help fit insulation and renewable energy supplies
into existing houses, and bring down their fuel bills.

“We know that in parts of Norwich, people struggle to live with
anti-social behaviour, fly-tipping, and dangerous and unpleasant objects
which are left around near their homes. This is unacceptable and the
council needs to take action to make all our communities pleasant places
to live. Greens would make this a priority. In fact, we want to improve
all parts of Norwich, making sure we have better air quality,
particularly around schools, and that we protect our green spaces,
safeguarding habitat for wildlife, honouring our river and ensuring that
everyone who lives in Norwich has access to some green space near where
they live.”

Councillor Galvin added:

“Ever more people are turning to the Greens as the party that recognises
the seriousness of the challenges we face – with the cost of living
crisis, war in Ukraine, and climate change all looming – and Greens are
ready with action to help. Greens have been winning seats across Norwich
and Norfolk, and people know that a vote for a Green candidate is a vote
for a party that listens, acts and can win.”
